Ploidy analysis from flow cytometry of the fat body and head cells from young and matured queens from field colonies. A Examples of the histograms obtained for young and matured queens are presented. In each histogram, the first peak corresponds to the distribution of 2C-DNA nuclei, whereas the second, the third, and the fourth correspond to the distribution of 4C- 8C- and 16C-DNA nuclei, respectively. The ploidy was determined by analysis of the head cells (diploid; 2C, [19]). Images of insects and ovaries were included.
